The project aims to increase climate resilience and navigation capacity along the Jamuna River in Bangladesh through flood and riverbank erosion management, navigation channel development, disaster risk financing for community protection, and community engagement and institutional building. The development of the Jamuna River Economic Corridor is also being financed in parallel with support from the World Bank.
The Project Preparation Special Fund (PPSF) grant will be used to conduct preparatory activities to enhance implementation readiness and the quality of the proposed investment. Specifically, the grant will support consultancy services for the preparation of environment and social documents and the conduct of a feasibility study on river course stabilization, riverbank protection, and erosion control of the Jamuna River.
The PPSF grant will be implemented by Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) under the Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR).
