Uzbekistan: Tashkent Metro Solar Power Development Project

DESCRIPTION

The Project will invest in developing approximately 100MW of solar power electricity production capacity to meet the Tashkent Metro's long-term electricity demand. AIIB will finance the installation of photovoltaic (PV) panels and associated facilities above the elevated and ground sections of metro lines and on the rooftops of two electric depots on a total area of over 380,000 sq.m. The project will contribute to the increase of the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix.

The Special Fund Project Preparation grant will be used to conduct preparatory activities to enhance implementation readiness and the quality of the proposed investment. Specifically, the grant will support consultancy services for preparation of a feasibility study including climate impact, economic and financial analysis, developing technical design, addressing environmental and social safeguards, enhancing institutional capacity and project management.

The Special Fund grant will be implemented by Tashkent Metro (State Unitary Enterprise “Toshkent Metropoliteni”).
