Cambodia has experienced steady urban growth over the last decade. The urban population, concentrated around the capital city of Phnom Penh, is rapidly spreading to other urban growth centers such as Kampong Cham, Kampong Chhnang, Takeo, and Prey Veng. Increasingly, settlements have been established in areas that are not equipped with the required basic urban services and infrastructure.
This Project Preparation Special Fund (PPSF) Grant will support the proposed Urban Infrastructure Development Project which aims to provide access to climate and disaster-resilient urban infrastructure in participating towns of Cambodia. The Project will support the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia in providing basic urban services such as water supply, sanitation, drainage and solid waste management in the four towns of Kampong Chhang, Kampong Cham, Takeo, and Prey Veng. Subject to a detailed feasibility study, the Project will support the construction and/or rehabilitation of wastewater treatment plants, sewer networks, drainage, and flood protection infrastructure and the development of climate-resilient engineered sanitary landfills.
The PPSF grant will be used to conduct preparatory activities to finalize project design and ensure implementation readiness. More specifically, the PPSF grant will support the preparation of a feasibility study, detailed engineering designs, and other critical studies/documents to enhance the project’s implementation readiness.
The PPSF grant will be primarily implemented by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia.
