Rwanda: Kigali Climate Smart Wastewater Management Project

DESCRIPTION

The Government of Rwanda is undertaking initiatives to achieve universal access to safely managed sanitation services to improve public health and the environment.

This Project Preparation Special Fund (PPSF) Grant will support the proposed Kigali Climate Smart Wastewater Management Project, which aims to improve public health in Kigali and enhance the water quality of downstream water bodies. The Project will specifically incorporate climate mitigation measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase disaster resilience. The Project will support the Government of Rwanda in providing an effective and sustainable wastewater management solution for Kigali. Subject to a detailed feasibility study, the Project will support the construction/rehabilitation of sewage systems and wastewater treatment and re-use systems.  

The PPSF grant will be used to conduct preparatory activities to finalize project design and ensure implementation readiness. Activities to be covered by the PPSF grant include the preparation of a feasibility study, detailed engineering designs, and other critical studies/documents to enhance the project’s implementation readiness.  

The PPSF grant will be primarily implemented by the WASAC Development Limited, a subsidiary of Water and Sanitation Corporation Group Limited.
