Alaa M. Abdel-Rahman is the advisor to Egypt’s Minister of Finance for International Financial Institutions (IFIs), as well as a senior economist at the Macro-Fiscal Policy Unit at the Ministry of Finance. He manages the relationship between the Ministry of Finance and IFIs, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), credit rating agencies, AIIB and investment banks. He has participated in several international forums, including AIIB Annual Meetings, IMF and World Bank Spring and Annual Meetings, G20 and BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meetings, among others. He also supervises the macro-fiscal framework at the Macro-Fiscal Policy Unit with a particular emphasis on the fiscal framework of the Ministry of Finance. He is currently the Director for Constituency 6 in AIIB. He has been the advisor and then the alternate director of the Constituency since September 2021 and has been actively engaged in relevant matters of AIIB in Egypt and the Constituency as a whole. He holds an MA in economics, with a specialty in Developmental Economics from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.
