Bengü Aytekin has been reappointed as a member of the AIIB Board of Directors, effective Jan. 1, 2026, following her service as a Director, Alternate Director and Advisor since Dec. 21, 2022.
She is Deputy Director-General for Foreign Economic Relations at the Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance, overseeing Türkiye’s engagement with multilateral development banks (MDBs). Her responsibilities include managing climate finance under the Climate Investment Funds and the Global Environment Facility, as well as coordinating relations with the European Union, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, and United Nations economic entities. She advises the Minister and Deputy Minister on strategies to enhance the effectiveness, financial sustainability and governance of MDBs, including in the G20 context. She also serves as Türkiye’s Alternate Deputy to the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action and as the country’s focal point for the Climate Investment Funds.
Previously, Bengü Aytekin was Head of Department for Multilateral Development Banks at the Directorate General for Foreign Economic Relations from 2014 to 2022, where she led Türkiye’s engagement with MDBs.
With over 23 years of public service at the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Bengü Aytekin has held a range of roles in foreign economic relations and international development policymaking, with deep expertise in MDBs.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Middle East Technical University, Türkiye, and a Master of Arts in International Development Policy from the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, United States.
