AIIB to hold its 8th Annual Meeting in Egypt

The Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) announced that its eighth Annual Meeting will be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, on Sept. 25-26, 2023.

The 2023 AIIB Annual Meeting is an important platform for AIIB to engage closely with stakeholders including its Members, partner institutions, business leaders, the civil society community and experts from a range of fields. As an historically notable host of consequential conferences, Sharm El Sheikh is a fitting meeting place for the important matters to be discussed at the 2023 AIIB Annual Meeting.

“The AIIB Annual Meeting provides us with a regular opportunity to report on our progress toward achieving our mission, which is to finance Infrastructure for Tomorrow that will foster sustainable economic development, create wealth, improve infrastructure connectivity and contribute to local, regional and global sustainability. By holding our Annual Meeting in Egypt – the bridge between Asia and Africa – we can directly engage with more of our Members in the region and expand our partnerships with more stakeholders,” said AIIB Vice President and Corporate Secretary Ludger Schuknecht. “It also allows us to identify opportunities for investment and collaboration with the private sector in the area.”

“Egypt and AIIB share a historic and long-standing relationship, starting when Egypt joined as a non-regional Founding Member on Aug. 4, 2016. Since then, we have successfully leveraged our partnership and jointly financed projects in the energy and water sectors, and for COVID-19 response, which have made a positive impact on the lives of many Egyptian communities. By cooperating across borders and working together in collaboration, Egypt and AIIB will continue to work together to achieve sustainable development through infrastructure,” said Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance of Egypt and Governor for AIIB.

During the 2022 AIIB Annual Meeting on Oct. 26-27, 2022, AIIB’s Board of Governors approved the resolution confirming that the eighth AIIB Annual Meeting of Board of Governors will be hosted by Egypt in September 2023.
